الملخص الإنجليزي
This study aims at identifying the motivation for Arabic language learning among non-Arabic learners in view of some variables selected by the researcher, namely gender, learning institution, specializations and academic qualifications.
The study sample comprises of 55 male and female learners from various institutions that offer Arabic language course for non-native Arabic learners in Oman. The researcher devised his own tool to measure the motivation level. The tool consists of 27 statements to measure two types of motivations; integrative motivations (14 statements), and instrumental motivation (13 statements). The researcher further adopted the descriptive and analytical statistical method to formulate the study results, which revealed the following:
1. Generally, learners scored an average of 7.16 in their motivation to learn Arabic, while the standard deviation is at 1.331. Considering the criteria set at table (2), the resulting mean falls in the 'high'.
2. In the integrative motivation axis, learners scored an average of 7.68, with a standard deviation of 1.235. This means is considered 'high' given the criteria used.
3. Measuring the instrumental motivation, learners scored an average of 6.64, with a standard deviation of 1.832. This means is considered 'medium' given the criteria used.
4. There is no difference of statistical significance in the mean motivation level with regard to gender, academic qualifications, specialization or learning institution.
5. The results showed differences of statistical significance in the mean motivational level in relation to age.
The researcher concluded with a number of recommendations and suggestions that could raise the motivational levels of non-native Arabic learners.
