The review has an introduction, a preface, four chapters, and an epilogue. The preface presented the political, social and intellectual features of the era of Al Jahiz. The first chapter discussed the history of Al Jahiz and his methodology in the historical narration as well as the history of his birth, education, mentors, and his contact with the Abbasid authority and his methodology in presenting the historical aspects in his literature like Al Haywana, Al Bayan, Al Bukhala' and other essays.
The second chapter focused on Al Jahiz's Perspective of Umayyad era and highlighted the opposing stance of Al Jahiz to the Umayyad and their right in the Caliphate. It also mentioned the stand of Al Jahiz from Mua'awiya in his dispute with Ali bin Abi Talib on the issue of caliphate. It also presented the stance of Al Jahiz from the issue of bequeathing the caliphate in the Umayyad state.
The third chapter, like the second, discussed Al Jahiz Perspective of Abbasid era, which is the era Al Jahiz lived the best part of his life in. At that time, he was close to the Abbasid authorities and wrote in defense of them and their views of and entitlement to the caliphate and he defended the bequeathing of caliphate in the Abbasids.
The fourth chapter completed the second and third chapters and presented and analyzed the stance of Al Jahiz from the political movements and religious sects at the states of Umayyad and Abbasids. One can note that Al Jahiz was more like the spokesperson of the Abbasid state in his discussions and defense of their principles and politics. The chapter also discussed the reasons of his defense against the Shu'ubism and atheism and his opposing to Shia movements. As for the Mu'atazila, the chapter presented the stand of Al Jahiz, who was from Mu'atazila, from various issues, most important of which, the issue of Caliphate (Imamate).
