This study aimed at identifying difficulties in teaching social studies in basic education schools grades ( 1-4) from female teachers' point of view. To answer the study questions, a questionnaire was compiled consisting of (78) items distributed among eight main different areas. The questionnaire was distributed to (248) teachers from different regions of Education in the Sultanate.
The items of the questionnaire were listed in descending order according to the degree of difficulty and determine the most difficult items for female teachers. The main important results of this study are summarized as follows: 1- The number of items of the study that were classified as having a high degree of difficulty were (45) items, and only (5) items were of low degree of difficulty. 2- There are statistically significant differences at the (0.05) level between the study sample which are attributed to the major specialization variable. 3- There are statistically significant differences at the (0. 05) level between the study sample which are attributed to the teaching experience variable. According to results, the study proposed recommendations such as necessity of having a broad view on the teaching process of the social studies curriculum for the basic education schools grades (1-4) and all other aspects related to it. These aspects include content , activities, teaching aids , teaching methods , assessment. Another recommendation is concentrating on the difficulties and try to suggest solutions for them , and the study also recommending in service training for social studies female teachers.
