The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of the Learning Cycle on Achievement and Retention of Second Preparatory Female Students of the Scientific Concepts Introduced Throughout the Unit of the Matter. The sample consisted of (148) second preparatory female students at Maryam Bent Omran Secondary School in Batina North . The sample was divided into two groups : The experimental group which was taught using learning cycle, consisted of (73) students . The second group was the control group which was taught by conventional method, consisted of (75) students . To gather the information, multiple choice test which consisted of (34) items was used . The validity of the test was established through repeated reviews by different judges. In the light of their reviews the test was re written. The reliability was determined through Chronbach's Alpha Coefficient for internal consistency which gives the value of (0.89)The statistical analysis of the post test showed there were significant differences between the group means at (a= 0.05) due to treatment in favor of the learning cycle. At the level of recall no significant differences between the groups at (a= 0.05 ), but there were significant differences between the groups in levels of understanding , application and analyzing in favor of learning cycle. The statistical analysis of the retention-test showed no significant differences between the groups at (a= 0.05) According to the previous results the researcher proposed some recommendations such as: the need to conduct seminars and work-shops for both teachers and inspectors to acquaint them with the learning cycle and how to implement it in schools in order to improve the students achievement, and conducting more studies using different school levels and other variables.
