The purpose of the present study is to investigate the issue of citizenship and the variations related to how it is perceived and dealt with by researchers, interested parties and intellectuals in general and in the Sultanate of Oman in particular. The study also looks into the mechanisms for the promotion of the values of belonging and loyalty among Omani youth at Sultan Qaboos University. In order to achieve the objectives of the study a questionnaire was distributed to TT. students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences and the College of Science. The sample was based on non-probability sampling technique (.e. convenient sample based among who is available among the students to fill in the questionnaire).
The validity of the study tool was ensured by distributing the questionnaire to a number of reviewers from among the faculty of the Department of Sociology and Social Work, College of Arts and Social Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University. The reliability of the research instrument was ensured by using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. In its theoretical framework the study is based on the issues raised by the different theoretical perspectives on citizenship, relying on the descriptive and analytical style.
The study tried to answer the following questions: What is the role of citizenship in the promotion of the values loyalty and belonging among Omani youth? What is the importance of social, economic, and political dimensions of citizenship and the order of their impact and association with it? T - Is there a statistically significant difference in the role of citizenship in the promotion of the values loyalty and belonging among Omani youth attributable to sex, academic specialization, educational level, and the pattern of housing?
The most important findings of the study are:
• The political dimension is the one most closely-associated citizenship values due to the fact that politics is the main stake in the society of our time.
• Whereas there are statistically significant differences in the role of citizenship in the promotion of the values of loyalty and belonging among Omani youth attributable to the variables of sex, academic specialization, and housing pattern, the same is not true in the case of the level of education.
The study concluded by presenting a set of proposals to increase the awareness and attention to the issue of citizenship and the ways to enhance the values of loyalty among Omani youth.
