The present study aimed to construct a scale of career awareness for higher education students in the Sultanate of Oman. The study sample consisted of (764) students (272 males & 492 females) whom were selected randomly using cluster sample covering 7 colleges and universities in Oman during the second semester of the academic year 2013 / 2014.
· The initial form of the scale included 42 items. The respondents responded to each item on a 5- point scale (Extremely highly applicable, highly applicable, moderately applicable, applicable, little applicable) that is scored 5,4,3, 2 and I respectively. .
The study results showed that the scale of career awareness has a high level of validity and reliability. The validity was calculated through four ways: face validity, exploratory factor analysis, construct validity and convergent validity. The reliability of the scale was calculated in two ways: Test-retest, and Coefficient Alpha. The final form of the tool consisted of 31 items distributed over 3 factors.
The results of the study also revealed that the level of career awareness among the sample study is located at the middle level. Thus, the study has come out a set of recommendations and proposals including: utilize the current career awareness scale to assess the quality of the career awareness programs and activities that are introduced in universities and colleges in Oman. The study also recommended the need for inserting compulsory career awareness courses for students in higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.
