This dissertation conducts a study of the current educational service distributions at the study area to identify the distribution pattern, to find out its adequacy to the people in the state and to what extent does the distribution matching the local and the international planning standards of the educational services. It also aims to determine the area's current and future needs of these services based on what the result of analysis of the compliance with the standards revealed. Future perception will be presented through drawing a digital school map demonstrating all the educational services needs and clarifying the best distributions of these services using the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program. The descriptive approach is used in the study to describe the current distributions of the service in terms of the adequacy to people in the area and the quality of distributions in proportion to the distributions of the population in the area. In addition, the study used spatial analysis approach to analyses the closest neighbor link and analyses the scope of the impact of the educational service to identify the pattern of school planning and its shortages using the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program via the Arc Map10.1 software. The study revealed that the state of AL Amerat lacks of shortages in the education service. There are only 18 school buildings to serve 26 schools, which means 8 schools have to function as an afternoon shift. Moreover, parts of the state lack of schools, whereas the other parts have a density of schools.
The study also revealed that there are unsystematic school distributions and it does not depend on a density of people in the state, the needs or the availability of the lands. Furthermore, it does not build upon scientific studies. The analysis of the neighbor link shows that the educational service in the area does not cover many of the residential communities, especially the male students in cycle two and post basic schools where they have to commute daily to their schools far away from their homes. The study recommended proper planning principles based on modern technologies like Geographic Information Systems (GIS) when choosing the locations for school buildings. It also recommended avoiding unsystematic distributions of schools and the importance of using official criteria in planning for the educational service in the Sultanate of Oman, taking into considerations the trend of the population growth while identifying the needs of lands for the schools in the future. School maps are also recommended for all the states in the Sultanate of Oman to determine the needed land for schools based on the numeric and spatial needs.
