The study aimed to identify the main obstacles facing charitable associations in achieving the economic empowerment of the poor families. The study also sought to define a proposed role for the role of the profession of social work as well as a proposal for the role of charitable societies in achieving economic empowerment of poor families.
The study is a descriptive design study based on the social survey in its both types; the comprehensive and the sample. The study was applied to Al Rahma Association for Childhood and Motherhood and Dar Al-Ataa as one of the charitable associations in the Sultanate. The study was applied using a questionnaire as a method of data collection on a sample of workers in the above mentioned associations as well as a comprehensive survey of the members of the Board of Directors of the Assemblies and a random sample of the members of the General Assembly in both associations. The total number of the participants was 84. Another tool for collecting data was also used. Five of the academics at the Department of Sociology and Social Work at the Faculty of Arts, Science and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University were interviewed to identify the role of the service Social issues.
The study came out with many results, most notably: • Charitable associations face many administrative and technical obstacles related to planning, organizing, communication, training, employment and financing in achieving the economic empowerment of poor families. - Deprived families benefiting from the services of charities face obstacles that divert their ability to find a stable source of income for themselves and to establish projects that achieve economic, social and psychological stability. • The most prominent obstacles faced by charities in achieving the economic empowerment of poor families related to the society was the weakness of the community promotion of products and projects of these families. - The absence of a government agency fully concerned with supporting economic empowerment programs is one of the most important obstacles related to the legislation and governmental laws in the field of charitable associations that seek to implement economic empowerinent programs.
- The role of social service in the field of charities is summarized in a set of skills and professional methods that social workers should acquire in order to deal with the obstacles facing charities of all kinds.
The study concluded with mechanisms to be implemented a and set of activated proposals and in charitable associations in the Sultanate. The most important of these is the necessity of training the administrators of the charitable associations and their employees in the administrative and technical processes that help them improving the work of the associations and finding the necessary measures to overcome the obstacles they face. Moreover, there is a need for establishing separate departments within the charities to only focus on the economic empowerment of poor families along with the recruitment of specialists capable of working with high efficiency on the scientific basis to help in the success of programs and projects carried out by charities.
