This research aimed to study the extent and magnitude of Youth Izba (a local name for social gathering space) on young Omani, and how it influences young generations. This phenomenon is a widespread in the North Bathinah region in Oman. The study also aimed to explored the factors or causes that motivate young manis in the north Bathinah region to attend these Izba, and its advantages and disadvantages. This study addressed the efforts and activities that were carried out by the concerned authorities and decision makers towards solving this issue.
This study used a descriptive exploratory design. Survey and structure-interview were used to collect the data. Purposive sampling was used to recruit 300 young participants who regularly attend this type Izba A total of 13 interviews were conducted with the higher officials within concerned authorities including "Royal Oman Police of the North Bathinah region, the Ministry of Education, (represented by teachers of high Secondary schools in Liwa and Shinas) and Ministry of Sports Affairs (represented by managers and leaders of the Sport clubs of Shinas and Liwa Descriptive (frequency and percentage) and inferential statistics (one-way analysis of variance, ANOVA) were used to analyse the data using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPPS) statistics software,
The findings of the study claimed that the main reasons that motivate young manis to attend Youth Tzbas were to meet friends and spend their free time. The study also revealed that the common activities that carried out in this gathering were cooking food and barbecue, watching television, and playing cards. Adding to that, the study claimed that this type of gathering had adverse effects that can be categorized into cultural, social, psychological, health and behavioural effects. The study revealed that there are several efforts carried out by the concerned authorities in terms of preventing illegal gathering, conducting a regular monitoring of these gathering, involving young people in sport activities and cultural and youth program, increasing awareness of parents and young people of the disadvantages and adverse events that were associated with this type of gathering. Based on the study findings, the researcher presented recommendations that could enhance improving the situation and reducing the adverse effects of a Izbas on young generation in Oman.
