The aim of this thesis is to focus on bill of lading as it is the only prove to carriage contract and I searched deeply on electronic bill of lading because it is the forthcoming way to future. I divided this research in to three sections, firstly I searched on the carriage of goods by sea, and the relationship between the electronic commerce and electronic bill of lading. In the second section I search on the definition of both normal and electronic bill of lading. Moreover I explained the procedures of e-bill of lading and the advantages, disadvantages for both types of billing. In the last section I explained the way to settle the dispute of e-bill of lading.
This thesis tries to answer many questions such like:-.
1. How important e-bill of lading in the maritime commerce?
2. Is electronic bill of lading will replace normal bill of lading after being used in all commercial sectors ?
3. Is e-bill of lading will do the same tasks as normal bill of lading?
4. Will the rules and procedures in using electronic bill of lading be different than normal bill of lading?
5. How to settle the dispute of e-bill of lading?
Finally I ended up this thesis with many recommendations make use of shown in the conclusion. I suggest that Omani legislators shall take it due to its importance.
This thesis is a source of knowledge for those who want to study bill of lading in general and e-bill of lading in specific.
