This study aims at exploring psychological and social problems of sickle cell patients and their families in Dhakhleya Governorate based on some variables. The study samples consist of (62) patients from both genders and coming from (52) families. They have been selected following convenience non-probability sampling method. The researcher has used a questionnaire to retrieve data on social and psychological problems. The questionnaire has been distributed in the Nizwa Tertiary Hospital. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t test, ANOVA test and LSD test have been adopted for the analysis of data.
The study results show that sickle cell patients have minor psychological and social problems but a moderate degree of educational problems making the former as the most severe kind of problems facing the patients. Hospital admission as a factor for low education achievements ranked first while the frequency of episodes ranked second. On the account of psychological problems, "feeling sad due to inability to participate in daily life activities" is the most common problem then "feeling concerned about the future". On the issue of social problems, the difficulty of travelling around ranked first while inability to help others because of illness ranked second.
