The current study aimed at investigating the degree of availability of children literature criteria in the reading lessons of the Arabic curriculum (I love My Language) of grade three basic education in the sultanate of Oman.
To achieve the study aims, analysis card consisted of (27) criteria derived from children literature criteria' list, which should be available in the reading lessons of the Arabic curriculum for grade three basic education, was used after being validated. Moreover, to insure reliability a random sample from the population was analyzed by another analyst. The result revealed a reliability of (86%). Accordingly, nine reading lessons were analyzed from the book using the card.
The study results concluded that considering language and style in the reading lessons came first achieving (98.85%) with high availability. The criterion of shape and production came second achieving (95.32%) which is also a high availability percentage. The least frequent was the input criterion achieving (58.37%) which is a medium availability percentage.
Therefore, the study recommended the need for incorporating children literature criteria in the reading lessons with the necessity of considering the variation between the importance of each criterion of children literature criteria. The study suggested analyzing reading (memorizing) lessons for grade three in consideration of children literature criteria.
