One of the main objectives of family and marriage guidance is to achieve marital adjustment between spouses, in a manner that reflects its effects in the family and social atmosphere. However, after identifying reasons behind marital maladjustment, and variables resultant of this in the course for protection against hazards of divorce and an objective to augment family coherence and face life pressures. The researcher endeavored through her study to figure out some factors that contribute in marital maladjustment from within the perspectives and views of those in charge of conciliation & reconciliation Committees and relevant visitors from spouses in Muscat Governorate. The study also aimed to establish, at the methodological level, participation in providing measurement and indicators to marital maladjustment, and other measures adopted to select life partner in conformity with the Omani environment, benchmarks that might be utilized by those working in marriage and family guidance fields. I intended to discover the nature of marital adjustment and marriage select indicators within the concept of spouses visiting Conciliation & reconciliation Committees, through which we can predict marital adjustment by referral to marriage select indicators in the Omani society.
In order that this study achieves its goals, two measurements were designed, the first one related to marital maladjustment from the perspective of Conciliation & reconciliation Committees members and some of their visitors, and the other regarding process of selecting the life partner for some of those visiting Conciliation & reconciliation Committees in Muscat Governorate.
To apply this study, two samples of two samples were selected i.e. the first sample represented by the members of Conciliation & reconciliation Committees in Muscat Governorate at (Wilayat Seeb, Bowsher and Amrat), adding up to 12 in number who are in direct contact with visiting families during the period (May 2011 – March 2012) and the second sample represented by some visitors to Conciliation & reconciliation Committees in Muscat Government comprising 15 families. Accordingly these measures were tested through assuming suitable statistical processes, as the study revealed the following:
• Arrange dimensions of marital maladjustment measurements by members of Conciliation & reconciliation Committees in Muscat Government in the following precedence i.e. (personal, emotional, organizational and sex dimensions). • Arrange dimensions of marital maladjustment measurements for some visitors to Conciliation & reconciliation Committees in Muscat Government in the following precedence i.e. (emotional, organizational, personal and sex dimensions). • There are statistical indicative differences between assessments of both the members and their visitors for the dimensions regarding marital maladjustment in favor of the members' sample within the sex dimensions and personal dimensions at indicator ( o• o 1 ≥ ). • Marriage selection criterion regarding the sample that visit Conciliation & reconciliation Committees in Muscat Government are organized against the role and importance as follows: (religious, moral, health, psychological features, social, financial, cultural, external appearance and media) aspects. • There is a passive linkage between marriage selection indicators at the extent of eventual achievement and marital maladjustment at indicator (o• o 5 ≥).
• There are no apparent statistically significant differences regarding variables for wife's work, her educational qualifications. Degree of kinship, place of origin, number of children, age at marriage time and age difference between spouses. • There are statistically significant differences regarding variables of marriage term & gender.
According to the former results, the researcher deducted some recommendations that might contribute to reinforce marital adjustment between spouses.
