The aims of the present study were to investigate the perceptions of senior English teachers towards their roles, to identify the challenges they face when performing their roles and to get their suggestions on how to overcome those challenges. The population of this study consisted of all senior English teachers in cycle 2 in North Batinah Governorate in the academic year 2016/2017. The study sample focused on 45 senior english teachers (23 males and 22 females). In order to answer the research questions, a survey questionnaire was used. The questionnaire consisted of a 5-point Likert scale items exploring the perceptions and challenges. The last part of the questionnaire was an open-ended question asking the participants to provide suggestions to overcome the challenges they face. The results of the questionnaire were presented using the means and the standard deviations. The major findings of the present study were: The major findings of the present study were:
1. According to the senior English teachers' responses, the degree of practice of the six domains are in the following descending order: field follow-up, planning, school environment and local community, curriculum, evaluation, and
professional development.
2. The senior English teachers estimate their performance of their supervisory roles of a high frequency since the grand mean of the six domains is (4.20) out of (5). 3. The highest practiced role is cooperating with school administration while the least practiced role is conducting research. 4. All four dimensions of challenges faced by senior English teachers (Challenges
related to administration, challenges related to English teachers and challenges related to supervision) constitute real strong challenges to them except the last dimension (challenges related to senior English teachers) which is a moderate challenge to participants. 5. Doing a lot of follow up work in the challenges related to administration category
(mean 4.40 and SD = .75) constitutes the highest challenge faced by senior English teachers whereas "weakness in leadership skills" in the challenges related to senior English teachers' category is a less serious challenge (mean=2.56 and SD=1.31) In light of the findings, recommendations and suggestions for Ministry of Education, school administrations, senior English teachers and for further research were provided.
