This project deals with the different types of corrosion experienced in oil and gas lines with specific reference to corrosion in the oil and gas lines coming from different wells of PDO in Oman.
It also covers in details the corrosion control measures practiced in PDO. Details of corrosion management such as Cathodic protection, Chemical inhibition, Oxygen scavenging, pH adjustment, stress reduction etc along with design considerations to minimize corrosion are also explained.
The project reveals the come out of long term studies using Cosasco Access fittings for a period of 17 years (in some of lines) on 12 gas and 12 oil lines under PDO operating areas. The study has revealed the various reasons for increased corrosion in the lines such as deterioration of inhibitor effectiveness due to expiry of shelf life, changes in oil characteristics, changes in pipe environment, inadequate rate of injection, use of ineffective inhibitor, presence of Free Oxygen in oil, water accumulation at the bottom of pipes, dust etc. and how the situations were managed to bring down the corrosion rates to within the tolerance limits of .05 mm/y.
