Abstract
An Analysis of Evolution of Historical Roots and Contemporary Interpretations of Violence in Islamic State Building Practices Anarchy has been taking place in Arab countries since the so-called Arab spring and emergence of IŞIL that has dominated large areas in Syria and Iraq through the use of armed violence to achieve its main goal to "establish or restore the Islamic state". It was important to address the nature of Islamic violence to understand the main driver of this phenomenon. Studying the ideological origins of Islamic violence by reading the original text and looking at the context in which this ideology took shape will clarify the vague picture of violence in the Islamic world. The ultimate objective of political violence in the Islamic world is the seizure of power and the creation of a society in the image of the leaders of the violent movements. There is no difference in goals between the Islamic extremist groups and the first Islamic caliphates. All of them seek state building. In this thesis, we are presenting the evolution of violence in the Islamic world through reading and analyzing the phenomenon from the beginnings of Islamic state until the current Islamic extremist groups. This thesis includes three main chapters: the first one addresses the nature of violence and terrorism in terms of definition and history. The second chapter is an analytical reading of political violence in Islam history. The third chapter studies the most extremist Islamic movements in modern times since the 19th century.
