The purpose of this survey is to identify the relationship between the emotional intelligence and psychological well-being among Nizwa University students and its relation with some demographic variables (social type and student major).
The survey sample included 400 males and females students from Nizwa University in Aldakhiliyah Governorate, Oman. They were chosen randomly. The survey used the Schutte emotional intelligence measure by Makhyal (2007) and the psychological wellbeing measure by Kharnoub Fotoun (2016)
By using correlation coefficient, T- test and multiple regression analysis the findings showed that there is positive relationships between students marks in psychological well-being (including its sub-dimensions ). Also, the findings of multiple regression analysis showed that the emotional intelligence contributed in difference (disparity) in psychological well-being (including its sub dimensions) The findings of the survey:
1. The level of the emotional intelligence and psychological well-being among Nizwa University's students is high.
2. The statistics showed no differences in the emotional intelligence between the students
attributed to social type variable.
3. The statistics showed no differences in the emotional intelligence between the students attributed to students' major variable.
4. There are no statistically significant differences (attributed to social type variable) in the psychological wellbeing including its dimensions: self-acceptance, personal growth, autonomy and environmental mastery) among the university students. However there are differences in the two dimensions (positive interpersonal relationship and purpose in life) in female students.
5. There are no statistically significant differences (attributed to students' major variable) in the psychological wellbeing including its dimensions: positive interpersonal relationship, purpose in life, autonomy and environmental mastery). However, there are differences in the (self-acceptance) dimension among art stream students. In addition, other differences in the (personal growth) dimension among science stream students.
6. There is positive correlation between the level of emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing among Nizwa University's students.
7. The emotional intelligence contributed in variance in the psychological well-being (including its dimensions)
