The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the vision of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos in Oman's foreign policy. This vision became obvious when His Majesty Sultan Qaboos listed the pillars of Oman's foreign policy in the Second National Day in 1972. These pillars summarise the concept of "PEACE". They aim to achieve good neighbouring by not interfering in the internal affairs of any country. They also aspire for strengthening Oman's relations with Arab countries and building good relations with the world countries. Adding to that, they support the Africans' issues and their struggle for freedom and independence. Oman has taken a hostile stance to the policy of racial segregation of the then government of South African and Rhodesia. Since the Sultanate of Oman is a developing country, it commits itself to constructive relations of collaboration and exchange with states of the Third World. This thesis shows the most significant aims of Oman's foreign policy include sustaining the continuous survival and national sovereignty of Sultanate. Supporting the prestige of the state in the international community is also an important objective Oman's good practices of these pillars of its foreign policy are evident to the world. Three important examples of such practices are Camp David Accord, Iraq-Iran War and the Iranian Nuclear Agreement. These examples prove that Oman's foreign policy has the sublime principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of any country and adoption of fruitful dialogue to settle disputes and conflicts.
Despite its many successes, the Sultanate's foreign policy faces a host of tremendous challenges such as the lack of experts for decision-making in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All the practices of such foreign policy have been the predominant initiations of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. In addition, there is no Crown Prince in the Sultanate to succeed His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Another challenge for such policy is the syndrome of oil-dependency and the absence of a well-diversified economy that would further enhance the Sultanate's foreign relations worldwide.
