The study investigated the Text Absent in the Maqamaat of Abu al-Harith al-Barawani and found that that the main source of the Text Absent in his works is the Qur'an and Sunnah. His works also clearly feature the use of both the literary and the historical Text Absent. This proves al-Barawani's rich cultural knowledge and his familiarity with the literary productions of his predecessors.
The study consists of an introduction, a background, three chapters, and a conclusion. The conclusion explains the reasons for choosing this subject in particular and outlines the previous studies, the methodology, and the structure of the study. In the background, the study introduces al-Barawani and his Maqamaat. It also defines the Text Absent term and shows how it is viewed by the Western critics and the temporary Arab critics.
