English abstract
The purpose of the current study is to recognize the role of professional development in enhancing organizational commitment among cycle two teachers in Basic Education in Sharqia North Governate. To carry out the study, the researcher followed the descriptive approach. The data was collected using a questionnaire. It was designed to identify teachers' attitudes towards the professional development programs used for enhancing the organizational commitment. It includes seven sections covering the organizational commitment indicators and its three dimensions: continuance, normative and effective. It also covers the role of the professional development regarding the three dimensions. After evaluating the Questionnaire reliability, the researcher distributed ran 193 questionnaires on 193 targeted participants. The analysis of the data gathered showed that:
• The level of the organizational commitment regarding the three aspects was between very high and high level. The normative aspect ranked the first with very high level. The second aspect with high level was the continuance commitment.
• There were no significant differences in the three aspects of the
organizational commitment except in the total amount which indicates that the organizational commitment was performed better by females rather than males.
• The participants showed high degree of acceptance to the role of professional development programs for enhancing the organizational commitment. There are no significant differences in all aspects of the role of professional development programs in enhancing the organizational commitment except the normative aspect which showed statistically differences in favor of females. The female teachers believe that the professional development programs play a vital role in enhancing normative commitment and it is not
concerned with major and work experience. - It indicates middle and low degree of participants' agreement with the obstacles that interrupt the role of professional development programs in enhancing the organizational commitment. Based on the study results, the researcher mentioned some practical suggestions and recommendations concerning the study aspects.
