English abstract
The current study aims to explore the range and extent of parental acceptance for their handicapped children at Al Wafaa Center for Rehabilitating Handicapped Children in Al Mudaibi State, Sultanate of Oman.
The researcher used The Relational Descriptive Method, a sample consists of (113) child joined officially at Al Wafaa Center for Rehabilitating Handicapped Children in Al Mudaibi State, South of Al Sharqia Governorate. The scale was delivered to parents to fill in, having their complete choice. We collected 100 questionnaires. Most of the signatories included mothers because it was difficult to find fathers. The researcher depended on and used the five gross factor scale (Costa & McCrae, 1992), and the parental Acceptance Scale(Mido 1985)and was translated to Arabic in 1991 by Ziad Alsartawi.
The results revealed that the Parental Acceptance for handicapped children was at an intermediate average rate, the Personality Traits scale related to the five gross factors for the sample was at a great rate, there were no statistically significant differences between members of the sample in the Parental Acceptance Scale according to the variable of the family financial income and the type of disability. In addition to that there were no statistically significant differences to the personality traits for parents according to the factor of disability type, and there were no statistically significant differences between the sample participants in the scale of parental characteristic traits and its five gross fields, according to the factor of disability type and the family financial income. There was a positive coefficient of direct correlation between parental acceptance and the five gross fields of personality traits. It revealed that more acceptance leads for more development in personality traits in general for the handicapped children in.
