English abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of using cartoons in teaching a unit of social studies subject, and the impact of that in the achievement on grade six of female students for basic educations along with their attitudes towards the using of the cartoons in learning. To achieve the aim of this study, the researcher used the experimental method and designed the materials of that unit by using the cartoons, and also using a test of 25 multiple choice questions. Moreover, the researcher designed attitude scale contained 15 items in two aspects: the level of learning benefit by using the cartoons, and using the animation as a mean of learning. The validity and reliability of these scales were checked.
The researcher applied these instruments on the study sampleof (56) female students. A group of (27) students out of the sample were from school of Fatima Bint Al Nabi for basic education grade (5-12), and this group represented the empirical group. Besides that(29) female students out of the sample were from school of AinJalut for basic education grades (5-10), and this group represented the control group. The pre and post achievement test was applied on both of the two groups, on the empirical group as well on the control group.
The study findings showed that there were a statically significant differences at the level of (0.05=a) for those students who studied by cartoons comparing to the students who studied by the traditional method favoring the empirical group. Additionally, the results concluded that the female students had high positive attitudes towards using cartoons.
The researcher recommends and emphasizes the necessity of spreading the cartoons programs at schools and encourage teachers to use them by organizing for them workshops on using animations. Finally the researcher comes up with a group of suggestions for future studies.
