English abstract
This study aimed to develop a scale to measure quality of life of omani teachers. It aimed to find out its psychometric parameters in terms of validity, reliability, and norms.
The sample of the study consisted of (760) Teachers of North Batinah, Sultanate of Oman. The scale was applied during the second semester of the academic year 2011/2012 .
The validity of the scale has been verified in three ways ,i.e., face validity. The validity of the scale was computed by an exploratory factor analysis. Results showed that the scale consisted of four main factors: Physical health, Mental life, Social life and Professional life. The convergent validity of the scale has been verified as SDO-1 correlated significantly with a measure of job satisfaction.
The divergent validity of the scale has also been verified by correlating SDO-1 with a Burnout Scale, yielding a strong negative correlation with quality of life scale.
The reliability has been verified through assessing the internal consistency. Alpha of the four sub-scales ranged between (0,83) and (0,74) and with a (0,88) for the total score.
Because there were no significant differences in the scale averages of males and females, the norms were derived for both males and females combined. The results were discussed in light of the theoretical framework and previous studies and recommendations were proposed for the field of education.
