English abstract
The study aimed at identifying the actual training needs for supervisors of the literacy and adult education centers at the Educational Ministry in the Sultanate of Oman from their perspective and the effect of the variables: social gender, educational qualification and years of experience, and the educational governorate on supervisors' training needs. To achieve this aim, the researcher has developed a questionnaire of (42) paragraphs divided onto six fields. After ensuring their correctness and stability, the researchers used the questionnaire with (67) male and female supervisor at the literacy and adult education centers. To answer the questions of the study, the arithmetical averages and standard deviations were extracted in addition to the use of the T-test and the analysis of the mono-variance.
The results of the study showed that the degree of training needs was great among the supervisors of literacy and adult education centers in the fields of: concepts and objectives, curriculum and teaching methods, evaluation, communication and human relations, planning, vocational growth and teacher development. The results showed no statistically significant differences between the averages of all study domains due to the gender variable, the educational qualification, and the educational governorate. However, the results showed that there were statistically significant differences at (a = 0.05) between the average responses of the targeted audience of the study attributed to the variable years of experience in the fields of: curriculum and teaching methods, and vocational growth and teacher development, in favor of those who have (6-10 years) experience.
Based on the outcomes of the study, the researcher has recommended providing active supervisors at literacy and adult education centers with training programs that actually focus on meeting their actual training needs. They should be kept abreast with the latest educational developments and changes taking place in the field of literacy and adult education and should be also involved in planning, implementing, and evaluating the training programs.
