English abstract
The present study aims at identifying the role of the school administration in developing leadership practice in students as showed in the literature and in some after basic schools in Oman. It also aims at finding the difference between the school administrations in developing leadership practice according to region, gender, class level and participation in the leadership group. It also gives some suggestions for developing leadership.
The researcher designed a questionnaire for the after basic students in Muscat, Al-Dakhlia and Dofar regions. It was designed to measure the role of the school administration in developing leadership in after basic students through these components: communication and building relationships, responsibility and self-confidence, working group and cooperative working and problem solving and decision making. The sample consisted of 542 students from the three regions mentioned earlier.
SPSS statistical program was used to analyze the results of the research, The findings of this study revealed that students believe that communication and building relationships was the first in developing leadership practice that the school administration provid, the second was solving problems and taking decisions, the third was responsibility and self-confidence, and the fourth was working and cooperative working.
The study showed that the least leadership exercises given by the school in communication and building relationships were students' participation in discussing ideas and information, receiving their colleagues' suggestions and showing them to the administration, and criticizing the rules and regulations of the school.
The least leadership exercises of responsibility and self-confidence were students' participation in receiving guests visiting the school, participating in meetings management and discussion, participating in discussing class councils' plans and activities plans. The least exercises
for working and cooperative working were receiving new students, class councils and activities meetings leadership, and organizing groups to educate the local society. Moreover the least exercises solving problems and taking decisions were students' participation in school decisions in meetings and giving suggestions to solve school problems.
As for variables of the study, results revealed that there are a statistically significant difference at <05 between the estimates of students about communication and building relationship related to the region where the estimates of Dakhlia region was higher. At the problem solving and decision making for the same variable, there is significant difference between(Muscat & Dofar) and (Dakhlia & Dofar) where the estimates of Dakhlia and Muscat where higher. Also, there are a statistically significant difference at <05 between the estimates of students related to gender where the females where higher. As for leadership group, results revealed that there are a statistically significant difference at <05 between the estimates of students and the differences for the benefit of the students involved.
There are no statistically significant difference at <05 between the estimates of students related to class level. Based on these results, a number of recommendations and further studies were suggested.
