English abstract
This study aimed at investigating the employment degree of critical thinking skills by the social studies teachers in the post-basic education in sultanate of Oman. To achieve the aims of the study a descriptive approach was used. The researcher prepared a questionnaire consisting of (24) skills of critical thinking skills appropriatë för teaching social studies which divided into five key skills. These are: discrimination, the conclusion, interpretation, reasoning and evaluation. After checking the validity and reliability of the instrument, it was applied to the study sample consisting of (109) social studies supervisors (males and feniales). The data showed that the degree of employing the critical thinking skills by social studies teachers in post basic education in Sultanate of Oman was (3.13) which means moderately. The data showed no statistical significant differences at the level of significance (a = 0.05 ) to estimate the sample on the axes study four due to the variable type. (male / female) except axis interpretation has the differences in favor of females, and there is no statistically significant differences at the level of (a = 0.05) to estimate the study sample due to the variable years of experience with the exception of the center evaluation There are differences in favor of experience (12 and over), and there is no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (a = 0.05) for the study sample estimaies auiduivi Lü the educational variables provinces and specialization. The researcher recommended the necessity to organize training workshops for social studies teachers during their service on teaching methods and modern activities which can be used to employ critical thinking skills during their teaching. Additionally, a set of topics was suggested for further studies.
