Diasporas play an important role in international relations by connecting homeland and hostland. Diasporas can act as a bridge between the sending states and the receiving states in promoting peace and security, and in facilitating economic cooperation between the two sides. Different nations recognize the importance of diaspora mobilization in playing different roles in international relations. This thesis studies Omani diaspora in East Africa by looking at the historical background of the Omanis' present since their early immigration to this region. It also looks into the motives behind Omanis' immigrations and their current state in East Africa by focusing on the places of their concentration, the relative size of their population, the strength of the connections between the diaspora and Oman, and the level of integration and influence within their hostland. We then try to determine whether the Omani diaspora is able to promote and strengthen the relations between Oman and the host countries.
