English abstract
The purpose of this research was to investigate the level of the job stress by Omani teachers basic school in south Al batina region, and to identify experienced sources of the social support they received, In addition, the aim of the research was to explore the contributory role of social support sources, sex and experience years in job stress. The research sample comprised of '(320) teachers, (171) male and (149) female. Two instruments were developed for the purpose of the present research. The first one was the social support scale, which consisted of (36) items related to four social support sources (family, friends, supervisor, co-worker). The reliability was achieved by the use Alpha Chronbach. The obtained Alpha Chronbach was (0.870). The second instrument was the job stress scale, which consisted of (38) items divided among 2 dimensions (Factors related to teaching, Systemic factors). The reliability was achieved by the use Alpha Chronbach. The obtained Alpha Chronbach was (0.897). Using T. tests and Multiple Regression Analysis the results showed that the subjects in the sample suffer from moderate stresses. Also the results showed that the teachers receive high levels of social support, with the support from the friend was the highest followed by the support from family and educational supervisors. While the support from co-worker was the lowest. Using Multiple Regression Analysis the result show that sex, social support from family & social support from supervisor only factors contributed 10.3% of the variance suggesting other contributory factors. It showed that the relation between (social support from family & social support from supervisor) and job stresses was negative. It also found that there were no statistically significant differences on the job stresses in regard to sex. Results have been interpreted in light of the literature reviewed and previous studies.
