The present study aimed to determine the most important requirements for the professional
practice of social work in dealing with social and psychological problems resulting from natural
disasters in the Sultanate of Oman, which were represented in: the knowledge, value and skill
requirements. The study also aimed to come up with proposals that contribute to activating the role
of the social worker in dealing with social and psychological problems caused by natural disasters.
The current study belongs to the type of descriptive studies, which relied on the descriptive and
analytical approach that was applied using the comprehensive social survey methodology for social
workers in the Ministries of Defense and Social Development in Muscat Governorate, which
numbered (50) social workers, by relying on two tools to collect data, represented in: A scale of The
researcher's design was applied to social workers, and an interview guide was directed to the faculty
of the Social Work Program at the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Sultan Qaboos
University of (9). The study found many results, the most important of which are: the increase in
the level of knowledge, values and skills of social workers, with a weak level of participation in the
stages of the disaster (the planning stage of disaster management, and their role during the disaster,
and after the disaster). The results of the study also revealed the existence of many training needs
for social workers, the most important of which is the need for training in crisis and disaster
management. The study also made some proposals in order to activate the role of the social worker
in the field of crisis and disaster management in the Sultanate.
