English abstract
This study aims at being aware of the school- community partnership and the different obstacles hindering its activation from the points of views of cycle two school principals in Al Dhahira in the sultanate of Oman through answering the following questions:
1- what are the fields through which the school could offer its services to the local community?
2- what are the fields through which the local community could serve the school?
3- what is the role of the parents and teachers council in activating this partnership?
4- what are the obstacles of such social partnership with the school?
The sample of the study consisted of all cycle two school principals in Al Dahira region in the sultanate of Oman (2007-2008). The total number of the sample was 39 mal and female principal. So as to achieve the goals and objectives of the study, the researchers developed a questionnaire consisting of 32 statements categorized into four components: the service school offer to the community, the service the community offer school, parents and teachers' council and its role in activating this partnership and the obstacles found. The reliability and validity of the study tool were investigated and there was harmony and coherence between the different statements.
It is worthy of note that T- Test was adopted to find out whether there were differences due to studies variables such as gender, experience and qualification. The final findings are:
1- in the light of the services the school offer to the local community, there are some good indications of the possibility of establishing a real partnership between the school and the community
2- the low level of the services offered to the school from the local community and its bodies that are supposed to raise the level of such partnership.
3- the absence of the role of the parents and teachers council in activating and developing this partnership.
4- still there are serious obstacles on the part of both the local community and the school.
5- there is a feeling of dissatisfaction on the part of the school principal regarding the relation between the school and the local community. 6 -there are no differences with statical indications at level (à =,05) in
the estimation of the study sample due to the study variables (gender, experience and qualification) for the four fields (service school offer to the community, the service the community offer school, parents and teachers' council and its role in activating this partnership and the obstacles found.)
Through the findings and the theoretical literature of this study, the researcher suggested some recommendations so as to activate the social partnership and co-operation with the school either on the part of the ministry of education or on the part of the school through various means, activities and programs
