English abstract
This study is entitled "Conflicting Narrations (Mukhtalif al-ḥadīth) in the works of al-Imām Nür al-Dīn al-Sälimi: Collection and Scrutiny". The main objective of this study is to highlight the methodology of al-Imām al-Sālimī in the explanation of ḥadīth that seem contradictory, as well as to clarify and specify the means and methods he used for this purpose.
The study includes an introduction, a preface, three chapters and a conclusion. The introduction has presented a summary of the research plan including the research problem, limitations of the research, rationale of the research, research objectives and structure of the research. The preface is divided into two sections; The first section presents a brief biography of al-Imām al-Sālimī and his scholarly background. The second section sheds light on the topic of conflicting narrations generally, in terms of
definition and explanation of the degrees and order given to it by the scholars.
The first chapter explains the most important aspects of al-Sālimī's methodology in combining and harmonizing between conflicting narrations. The second chapter explores the methodology of al-Imām al-Sālimī in outweighing conflicting narrations, highlighting the most important aspects to be considered in distinguishing between preponderant (al-rājih) and non-preponderant (al-marjūh) that are either related to the chain of narrators (sanad) or to the text (matn), or neither of both.
In the final chapter, the researcher showcases al-Salimī's methodology in removing the contradiction between conflicting hadith by using the theory of abrogation (naskh). This chapter consists of two parts: the first one presents a summary of the definitions of abrogation (naskh) and Salimī's opinions related to some issues in it. The second part displays an applied study of abrogation (naskh).
Finally, the conclusion summarises the most important results and suggestions; among them that al-Salimī had an independent personality in his methodology of removing the contradiction between conflicting hadith. He was eager to implement all evidences and not neglect any one of them. Therefore, he expanded the consideration of combining and harmonizing while he minimized the consideration of abrogation. Likewise, the researcher presents some recommendations that may enhance this study to achieve its objectives.
