Abstract
The study aimed at answering the following questions: what extent are the reading
comprehension questions included in the fourth grade Arabic textbooks for the reading
comprehension measured by PIRLS? What is the level of consideration of reading
comprehension questions in the PIRLS in the first and second parts? Therefore, the
study put the descriptive method, by using a content analysis card. The results of the
study showed that the Arabic textbooks for the fourth grade has included the four
reading comprehension processes and most of its sub-processes.Also it showed that the
percentage of consideration in processe of the focus on and retrieve explicitly stated
information was 27.4% on the level of the two books, which is higher than the
percentage of the process of make straightforward inferences, which was 18.10%, . The
highest process on the both level of the two books was the process of Interpret and
Integrate Ideas and Information, by 37.10% While the lowest process at the level of the
two books was the process of evaluate and critique content and textual elements which
only 11.8%. On the level of sub-processes, it has become clear that the Arabic textbook
focused on the process of interpreting a real-world application of text information,
while the book in its parts angore the process of determining an author's perspective on
the central topic, and did not clear some other processes in the first part, such as:
searching for definitions of words or phrases, the process of inferring a story's mood or
ton, the process of evaluating the likelihood that the events described could really
happen, and the process of determining an author's perspective on the central topic. In
addition, also in the second part of arabic texebook not clear the processes of
determining an author's perspective on the central topic, the process of finding the topic
sentence or main idea (when explicitly stated), the process of identifying generalizations
made in the text, the process of describing the relationship between two characters, the
process of considering an alternative to actions of characters, evaluating how likely an
author's argument would be to change what people think and do, and the process of
ز
judging how well the title of the text reflects the main theme. The main
recommendations of the study are:
1. Reconsidering in processes in Arabic Textbook for the fourth grade wich have to be
balanced with the four reading comprehension processes wich measured by the PIRLS
Study.
2. Reviewing the diversity of reading comprehension questions, taking into wich is
consider the four comprehensions and the most of its sub-processes in both parts of
