English abstract
This study aimed to examine the effect of using pictorial stories in teaching Arabic language grammar in grade eight students' academic achievement and retention learning impact. The researcher has designed a written test to measure the impact of using pictorial stories on students' learning and academic achievement in Arabic language grammar. He also designed a guide for using pictorial stories for grade eight grammar lessons. Both tools were examined by a group of specialized adjudicators who ensured their validity. Reliability of the test reached (0.74) using the internal consistency tool (Cronbach Alpha Coefficient).
The study sample was divided into two groups: an experimental group consisting of (27) students who were taught using pictorial stories strategy, and a control group who were taught using conventional strategies. Both groups took a post achievement test. The same test was repeated two weeks later to measure the retention learning impact.
The study results revealed variance of statistically significance at (a=0,05) between the averages of the two groups in favor of the experimental group. The study also a statically significant difference between the mean score of the groups in the delayed test for the experimental group at a level of (a=0,05)
Based on the results stated above, some recommendations of using pictorial stories in teaching Arabic grammar and applying it in teaching Arabic language skills were suggested by the researcher. He also suggested a number of future studies: the effect of using pictorial stories in developing critical listening skills of grade five students and the effect of using pictorial stories in developing spelling skills and its retention learning impact.
