English abstract
This study aims to establish a list of competencies required for the school principal in the light of the strategy of education in the Sultanate of Oman. The researcher used the Delphi technique as a method of predicting a future possible or desirable, the researcher has prepared a list of suggested competencies proposed in the form This list was of a questionnaire including fourteen sections. presented to the group of experts in two successive rounds in order to identify the most important skills for school principal. This was followed by a calculation of averages of responses for each skill in the survey. After that, a new list of competencies consisting of fourteen sections and 83 competencies was drawn up.
The recommendations of the study are:
1. Adopt a list of criterion for the selection of school principals, their assistants and other administrative and supervisory functionaries.
2. Train school principals and their assistants to be able to master these skills.
3. Rely on the drawn up list of competencies of the study when designing tools to evaluate the performance of school principals and their assistants and other administrative and supervisory positions.
4. Decentralize administrative work through the application of self- management system and increasing the powers granted to the school principal.
5. Increase the financial allocations granted to schools so that they can improve their performance and meet the requirements of education in the Sultanate of Oman.
6. Carry out further research and study on these competencies as the researcher believes that school principals will require new competencies to cope up with the trends of the changing times.
