English abstract
This study aimed at establishing a group counseling program based on eclectic integration therapy, and then at examining its effectiveness in improving the psychological security of an oil company employees in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Arabic version of Maslow's Psychological Security Test (MPST) was administered for the whole study population (N = 150) in Mohammed Albarwani Holding Company. Then, 24 employees were selected to form the study sample based on the lowest scores in the MPST. The sample was randomly divided into an experimental group of 12 employees and a control group of 12 employees. The experimental group was subject to group counseling program while the control group was not subject to any program. The program lasted for two month (two weekly sessions).
In order to test the study hypotheses, the researcher calculated the means and standard deviations of the degree of psychological security for the two groups (experimental and control) both on the post and follow-up measures. The Mann-Whitney U Test was used to test the statistical significance of the differences in scores of psychological security between the two groups in the post and follow up measures.
The results showed statistically significant differences between the control and the experimental groups. The differences were in favor of the experimental group as its levels of psychological security increased compared to the controlled group on both the post and follow-up measures. This could be attributed to the group counseling program used with the experimental group.
