English abstract
This study aims to identify (or compute) the counselling and the professional needs of jobs seekers in the Sultanate of Oman and the ways of meeting these needs. The study involved 340 seekers; 250 of them are secondary school graduates and 90 are university graduates during 2008. These needs were identified through a questionnaire, the reliability of these needs were insured first, then were applied on the study participants.
The results of the study showed that there are (46) Career guidance needs over the averages ranging between (2-97-3- 64) however the majority of them which the members of the study sample (job seekers in Sultanate of oman) are facing the first ten needs which ranged over the calculation of averages (3-64-3-47) (to get on consistaut source of income) (choose a job within my abilities) (get a suitable experience which helps me to find a job) (see the vacant posts and the dates of tests and interviews) (search for places where job opportunities are available) (to achieve harmony Career and satisfaction) (to know the job skills required by the employers) knowledge of professions and jobs available in the labor market) (to overcome the difficulties that come up to the achievement of the career goals).
The study also shows a number of similarities in some of the counselling and professional needs of jobs seekers according to gender (male/ female), qualifications (secondary certificate/ university certificate). It shows no considerable or noticeable differences between participants in level (a =0,05) according to gender male/female or according to qualifications (secondary/university). On the other hand, the study proves countable differences between the male and the female university graduates jobs seekers in level (a =0,05) and for the male.
The study also finds no countable differences between the universities graduates or the secondary schools graduates in
level (a=0,05).
Finally, the study shows that the most important issues that the jobs seekers in the Sultanate of Oman need to meet were as the following: (giving them priorities for jobs and employing), (study their social and psychological needs and meeting them), (participating the private part in solving their problems), (training and qualifying them to join the working field), (giving them opportunities of part time work to get experience), (changing the society negative views towards some unwanted jobs). The study also recommends the necessity of taking care of these job seekers, and make counselling and professional plans and programmes for them. In addition, to conducting more studies in this field, and make centers for professional counselling around the Sultanate to meet the professional and counselling needs of jobs seekers, and providing them with any Career counselig and guidance. Finally, reducing the use of the expatriate manpower, and suggested a number of further studies.
