English abstract
This study aimed to analyze the reality of the current spatial distribution of
public schools in wilayat Sur, the most important factors affecting this
distribution and assess the distribution pattern. The study also aimed to know
the criteria used when distributing and selecting schools' sites, the extent of
commitment to apply this standard to existing public school sites. Then
suggesting the most suitable areas for schools in the future in line with the
spatial criteria.
The study followed several approaches to achieve the objectives of the study:
the descriptive survey approach to describe the current distributions of public
schools in terms of the efficiency of distribution in the area. Conducted
interviews with officials and some school principals and publication the study
tool (questionnaire) on a sample of parents to identify factors affecting the
distribution of schools. In addition, the study used spatial analysis approach,
cartographic and statistical methods in GIS program such as nearest neighbor,
standard distance and directional distribution. The study concluded that there
is a discrepancy in the distribution of schools among residential
neighborhoods, as they are concentrated in some neighborhoods while others
aren't, in general, the largest number of schools in main center of Sur. The
statistical methods revealed that the pattern of distribution of schools is a
convergent pattern in Sur, the general trend of distributing schools extends
from the northwest to the southeast. The results indicated that some schools
did not conform to spatial standards, which lead to suggesting sites for schools
in the future according to a set of spatial criteria. The study recommended to
reconsider the current distribution of schools in order to achieve spatial
appropriateness and justice in the distribution, the necessity to follow the
scientific principles and planning standards when choosing school sites.
