English abstract
This study aimed to identify the application of governance principles in the Oman
Football Association through three principles (transparency, accountability, and
participation). The study is carried out through qualitative research methodology,
where data were collected using semi-structured interviews and document analysis.
The sample consisted of 12 respondents who work in the Omani sports sector
representing five categories.
The study results show that there is a relative application of the practices of
governance principles in the Oman Football Association. The interviews revealed a
weakness in the transparency indicators represented in disseminating information and
data on the organizational, financial, and administrative aspects. In addition, even
though the association enables the application of accountability through the clear
separation of powers, there is an apparent weakness in the role of the General
Assembly in applying accountability, especially when it comes to the Board of
Directors. The study found a set of challenges that may limit the application of
governance's principles in the association. It includes prioritizing personal interests,
the weak capabilities of members, and the absence of legislative and legal texts
obligating the application of good governance practices. In addition to the limited
participation of stakeholders in the formulation of policy and decision-making.
The study concluded with some recommendations, such as reviewing the
association's laws and legislation related to work. In addition, the adoption of the
proposals recommended by the study sample regarding practices that enhance
governance principles and the establishment of the "Governance and Ethics
Committee."
