English abstract
This study focused on showing the purpose dimension in belief in the Last Day in the
Holy Qur'an and comparing it to the intellectual side of theology. It also followed the
extent to which faith thought was affected by external influences which made it, for some
time, move away from the divine purposes of pure faith based on the Holy Qur'an and
the true Sunnah of Mohammed Peace Be Upon Him. Then, it offered an insight into the
purpose dimension in the encyclopaedia The Burhan Alhaqq by Shaikh Ahmed bin
Hamad Al-Khalili – may Allah protect him – which inaugurated a new era and an
enlightened thought which re-established faith thought according to our era's thought and
tongue. This was carried out via focus on faith's practical functional dimension that
achieves the individual's intellectual and practical balance and thereby fulfils the
principal purpose from his creation which is worshipping Allah and obeying Him in one's
speech and deeds. And being the successor of Allah on earth, he seeks to pursue prosperity
in the interest of the universe and those who live on it.
In this study, the researcher utilised the following research methods: the inductive, the
analytical, the inferential, and the comparative methods. The study comprised two parts
preceded by a preface which undertook the task of defining key terms in the research,
tracing back the scientific development of the purpose thought, comparing purposes of
Sharia to those of faith, explaining the reasons behind the absence of the faith dimension
in the purpose thought, and finally presenting Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Khalili –
may Allah protect him – and his encyclopaedia The Burhan Alhaqq. The subsequent
sections are organised according to the Last Day's happenings, and the study of each step
and its purposes was carried out first through the Qur'an, then through theology, and
finally through The Burhan Alhaqq. The first chapter spoke of death and tomb's torment.
This first phase starts with the soul's departure from the body, passing through Barzakh
(isthmus) and tomb's bliss or torment. This was made possible through induction and
interpretation of Qur'anic verses and linking them with their contexts and their linguistic
and implied purpose meanings.
The second chapter speaks of the Last Day from resurrection to eternity based on the
Qur'an and theology and the extent to which the purpose dimension of this day was shown
in The Right's Proof. This is the most important part because it reveals a good deal of the
Unseen world. Hence, there was so much disagreement which lay at the basis of the faith
that widened the circle of differences between different sects and doctrines and had
implications on faith, behaviour, and destiny.
The study concluded that the purpose dimension in belief in the Last day was apparent in
The Right's Proof encyclopaedia, even though it was not explained independently. This
trend makes faith go beyond its abstract linguistic essence to have a greater influence in
the intellectual, spiritual, and practical spheres. Among faith's purposes, one can cite
monotheism and servitude to none but Allah, Man's righteousness in both worlds,
inhabiting the earth, and therefore achieving the functional dimensions of belief in the
Last Day by linking faith to work, this results in a feeling of individual responsibility and
self-control which improves behaviour as well as the state of society. Thus, psychological
security is achieved via linking one's course in life to the just and eternal destiny.
Hence, there is an urgent need to renew faith's intellectual discourse based on the Holy
Qur'an and the true and steady prophetic Sunnah, and to present it in a dialectic method
that takes into account the exigencies of our era and the modes of thinking of different
generations, away from the classical theological debates. Even though those debates could
preserve faith for a while, they were at the root of much of the divisions that arose
thereafter, and which led to the fact that many Muslims departed from the purposes of
true faith and its spiritual and behavioural teachings. And because the main purpose of
legislating is the preservation of the Uma's integrity, and the pursuing of its goodness, its
righteousness is conditional on the goodness of its faith and its readiness for renewal in
the face of all misconceptions. All this testifies to the importance of the method outlined
in The Right's Proof encyclopaedia.
