English abstract
This study aimed to reveal the obstacles that prevent the Sultanate of
Oman from hosting mega sports events from the point of view of experts in the
sports, economic and tourism sectors, as well as to highlight the available
opportunities that may enable the Sultanate of Oman to organize one of mega
sporting events in the future. The researcher used the descriptive survey
method for its suitability to achieve the objectives of the study. The study
sample consisted of (163) experts. Among them (58) experts in the sports
sector, (53) experts in the economic sector, and (52) experts in the tourism
sector, who were chosen by the intentional sampling method, from those who
were chosen after reviewing the statements by the leadership and higher
administrative bodies in these sectors, and they responded to the study tool
(questionnaire).
The most important results indicated the confirmation of the opinions of
experts in the sports, economy and tourism sectors that the idea of hosting
international sporting events in the Sultanate of Oman has many existing
obstacles that require confronting, studying and reconsidering many of their
procedures. Oman to organize such events in the future; With the necessity of
providing various facilities for its development and support on the widest scale
in the various sectors. The results indicate that the constraints related to human
and financial resources, in addition to the available opportunities in the cultural
and social aspect, are the most consistent in the opinions of the experts.
The study presented a set of recommendations, the most important of
which is the dissemination of a culture of awareness of the higher authorities in
the Sultanate of Oman regarding the lack of adherence to traditional ideas and
benefiting from the experiences of developed countries in the field of sports
tourism. As well as developing a clear strategy to raise the budget of the sports
sector in the general budgets of the Sultanate of Oman, and developing
economic benefits for investors. Also, the need for renovation by establishing
modern sports projects in line with the development of sports facilities and the
implementation of the plan to develop the general condition of the current
sports facilities and facilities. It is also concerned with preparing and qualifying
Omani competencies in the fields of planning and organization, and providing
them with all skills and knowledge. needed to manage global sporting events in
the future. In addition to developing work strategies in the sectors: sports,
economy, and tourism, and forming a joint committee from each sector to
search for challenges and obstacles that may face them in order to host world class sporting events.
