English abstract
This study aims to identify the role of debates in developing leadership skills among students of higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman. The study sample consists of students of higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman, with (263) students. The researcher adopted the descriptive analytical approach. The questionnaire was utilized by the researcher as data collection tool to obtain the following expected outcomes :
Debates have a positive effect on developing the persuasion skill among students of higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.
Debating has a positive impact on developing problem-solving skills for students of higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.
The results of the study showed the following:
There is a statistically significant effect at the significance level (α≤0.05) for debates on persuasion.
There is a statistically significant effect at the significance level (α≤0.05) for debates on problem solving.
In light of the results, the study recommends teaching debates in higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman, and urges students to participate in debates to develop their skills. The study also recommends expanding research in the field of debates, especially with regard to employing debates in the administrative field. This study seeks to contribute scientifically in the field of debates by supplementing previous studies with a recent study examining the role of debates in developing leadership skills and its impact on the labor market, as the researcher faced difficulty in obtaining modern studies and sources in this field, and it also contributes to providing the most important recommendations to the adopters of The decision and policy makers in the universities of the Sultanate, in addition to supporting educational institutions in the application of debates in the vertical curricula and student activities, as well as students of higher education institutions in developing their leadership skills represented in communication skills such as dialogue and persuasion, and analytical skills as solving problems and critical thinking required by the labor market, in order to achieve The priorities of Oman 2040’s vision are to develop the educational system at all levels and improve its outcomes by focusing on raising the quality of education so that graduates are qualified to enter the labor market with competitive talents , capabilities and skills.
