English abstract
This study aimed to identify the mechanisms national sports bodies use to manage athletes' level
of participation and talent discovery systems and support the athletes during and after their careers
in the Sultanate of Oman. The study adopted the descriptive survey method and used a
questionnaire based on the SPLISS model scale as a tool for collecting data. The study was applied
to a random (stratified) sample of 155 respondents related to the study's problem.
The study reached a set of results, the most important of which is that the Ministry of Culture,
Sports and Youth plays an appropriate role in providing tests that contribute to the work of the
federations and the Olympic Committee in identifying young talents with clear standards in each
sport and the existence of a systematic process followed to identify and select the national elite.
There is also an expansion in sports participation, which helps raise the level of competition and
general sports performance in the country. In contrast, there needs to be more national policies to
control the measurement and evaluation of the quality of sports clubs' work in developing sports
talents. The results also showed that private sports bodies are deficient in assisting athletes in their
lives after professional sports, such as providing early financial support, supporting studies,
providing professional offers, and helping them search and find a job in the early stages appropriate
to their sports career.
The study concluded with several recommendations, including developing a strategy that contains
a set of goals and standards at the technical, training and administrative levels to be used by the
governing bodies of sports in the Sultanate of Oman to control the measurement and evaluation of
the quality of the work of sports clubs. In addition, the importance of supporting young talents and
the particular training environment by developing them at the local level, directing the authorities
responsible for planning for elite athletes to pay attention to providing a distinguished professional
life system for the athlete, in addition to securing his career future, encouraging scientific research
into policies for achieving sports achievement and focusing on the other pillars of achievement in
SPLISS.
