English abstract
This research study aimed to identify the views of social studies teachers about the effect
of social studies platforms on the students’ National Identity and their roles to reinforce it among
their students. To achieve the objective of the study, a questionnaire was developed to measure
two axes: the effect of social studies platforms on students’ National Identity (religiously,
linguistically, historically and heritage) and the social studies teachers’ roles in promoting
National Identity. To verify the validity of the tool, it was presented to a group of experienced
arbitrators. Additionally, the reliability coefficient of the instrument was calculated using Alpha
Cronbach to sample of participants (outside the sample of the study) and it was (0.84). The tool
was applied to a sample of 300 social studies teachers from four governorates which are Muscat,
Al-Dhakilyah, North Al-Batinah, and South Al-Batinah.
The study have concluded that the degree of the impact of social studies platforms
on students’ identity ranged from very high to high and the grand mean of the four axes was
(4.19). The results concluded that social studies teachers play a significant role in reinforcing
students’ National Identity and minimizing its effects in the historical, religious, linguistic,
and heritage dimensions. The overall mean of the dimensions was (4.22), which is a very
high level of influence. Also, it stated that there was no statically significance difference
with respect to gender between the opinion of male and female social studies teachers about
the impact of social studies platforms on students’ national identity. Moreover, there is a
weak positive, and statistically non-significant correlation between the degree of social
studies teachers’ use of social media platforms and their opinion about its’ impact on
students’ National Identity.
The researcher recommended the necessity of activating social media platforms to
reinforce the religious, linguistic, historic, and heritage aspects of individuals and the
necessity of introducing educational platforms into the curriculum tasks to link students’
learning with their interests.
