English abstract
The study aimed to examine the relationship between body image, alexithymia, and
emotional regulation strategies among adolescent students in the Sultanate of Oman.
To achieve the objectives of the study, the descriptive approach was chosen, and the
study scales were applied: the body image scale prepared by Raqab (2018), the Perth
Alexithymia Scale prepared by precee et al, (2023), and the Gross Brief Scale of
Emotional Regulation Strategies which done by precee et al,(2023). The study was
conducted on a randomly selected sample consisting of (618) students, including
(199) male students and (419) female students, whose ages ranged from (13-18)
years. The results of the study showed the following: Positive body image is high
among adolescent students in the Sultanate of Oman, and the level of alexithymia
among the sample is high. In addition, the use of both cognitive reappraisal and
emotional suppression strategies by adolescent students was moderate. The level of
negative body image can be predicted through the level of alexithymia. However,
the level of body image cannot be predicted through emotional regulation strategies,
whether cognitive reappraisal or emotional suppression. There are also no
statistically significant differences at the significance level (α=0.05) in all study
variables according to the gender variable.
