English abstract
This paper aims at studying the psychological, social and achievement effects divorce may have on children in the Sultanate of Oman.
The suggested research is based on the previous theoretical literatures which have been written about this subject .It will analyze first how much damage and negative impacts children will have as a result of depriving them from their mother's well care and also from the well protection and love of their fathers. Children may face some sort of un-comfortable social situation. Previous studies which aimed to know the effects of divorce on children are, Barka (YT) which dealt with the relation between divorce deprive among parents and some psychological difficulties for children between 9-11 first area in Amman. Second, Alali (E) aimed at knowing the impact of divorce on the psychological adjustment and all itsdimensions on the children of divorced couples. It also shows the relation between divorce and some personal and social variables, such as sex, age and residence of the child following the separation of the parents. Another study is Alhubida (..) which dealt with social, psychological and achievement problems facing teenagers following divorce between parents. Through personal interviews this study has conclude that there are psychological effects due to divorce. In addition to discomfort, depression, low self-esteem and anxiety, there are also social effects such as isolation, fear from the future aggression among males and shyness among females. As for achievement, there has been an obvious decline in the level of achievement in the following areas: understanding, ability to make summaries, decreasing motivation and attention, less concentration and losing abilities in decision making and problem solving for the children. The researcher has recommended that this paper should be used for other researchers in this field and to psychological counselors as well as to social workers and teachers in order to alleviate such bad effects on children of the divorced couples.
