English abstract
This study aimed to reveal the effectiveness of teaching a proposed unit in social studies on developing museum skills and imparting historical facts to the fifth grade girl students in the Governorate of South Al Batinah.
The researcher used the quasi-experimental approach and the descriptive approach to achieve her goals, and the study sample included (30) students in the fifth grade at Al Rustaq Basic school. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used three tools to collect data: the attainment test of knowledge about museum awareness and the acquisition of historical facts consisting of (24) multiple-choice questions and a measure of attitudes towards Omani museums, consisting of (19) sentences divided into (3) axes and a measure of behavior which consists of (12) questions divided into (2) axes. The validity of the tools was verified by a group of arbitrators and their stability in internal consistency was measured through the Alpha Cronbach coefficient.
The coefficient of stability of the knowledge achievement test reached (0.721), while the trend scale was (0.916), and for the behavior scale, it reached (0.928).
The results showed statistically significant differences at the level (a=0.05) in the average of the study samples that were used for testing knowledge, attitudes and behavior. In light of these results, the researcher recommended the necessity of developing museum awareness and imparting historical truth in teaching social studies.
