English abstract
The present study aimed to evaluate the curriculum of Life Skills in the second cycle schools in the basic education in the Sultanate of Oman from the perspective of the subjects' supervisors and teachers. Besides investigating the effect of different variables such as the gender, the occupation, the academic qualification, the specialization, and the teaching experience, the researcher used the descriptive methodology in order to achieve the aims of the study. For instance, the researcher designed a questionnaire that consisted of 67 statements divided on 6 factors. These factors were: the consistency of the general aims with the content of the subject, the class and non-class activities, the educational aids, the educational technologies, the assessment, and the technical production. After checking the validity and the reliability of the research instrument, it was applied on 317 of the subject's teachers in the second cycle of basic education in the governorates of Muscat, North Batinah, and Dakhiliya as well as on 33 of male and female supervisors of the subject. The results of the study showed that the judgment of teachers and supervisors of the subject in the second cycle schools (Grade 5- 10) estimated "strong degree" in terms of the alignment of the general aims with the content, the activities, and the evaluation whereas their estimation assigned an "average degree" for the educational aids and technologies, the content, and the technical production. In addition, the results showed no significant difference at the significance level of (a = 0.05) for the variables of gender and occupation on all the studied factors. Also, there was no significant difference at the significance level of (a = 0.05) for the variables of teaching experience on all factors except for the factor of educational aids and technical production which showed significant difference for the benefit of the less experienced teachers (1-5 years). The results also showed no significant. difference that can be attributed for the variable of the academic qualification on all factors except for the factor of the alignment of the content with the general aims and the general total for the benefit of diploma holders. Furthermore, the results showed no significant difference that can be attributed for the variable of the specialization except for the factor of the technical production for the benefit of the specialization of applicable sciences.
