English abstract
The current study aimed at examining the psychometric properties of HEXACO-60 inventory for the six personality factors on a sample of school and university students in Oman. Self-and peer-report forms were used for this purpose. The study sample consisted of 784 school students (50.51% males, 49.48% females). In addition, 421 (42.5% males, 57.5% females) university students were included in the sample. The HEXACO 60 inventory was implemented for the study sample. A total of 444 school students gave self and peer reports while the rest of the sample responded to self-report form only. The factor structure was checked using confirmatory factor analysis. The findings revealed a six factor structure with 51 items in the school sample for both self- and peer- report forms; and with 60 items in the university sample for self-report form. Moreover, the findings showed good indicators of the convergent correlation between HEXACO factors and each of mastry goals and performance-approach goals. In addition, the finings confirmed HEXACO-60 ability to discriminate between males and females and between different school levels in some personality dimensions. Multitriat-multimethod matrix was also used to check HEXACO-60 construct validity. The findings suggested good indicators for convergent and discriminant validity of the measure. The study concluded that a six factor personality structure was supported in the current study sample using HEXACO which allows using this inventory in future studies in Oman. The study highlights the importance of conducting more studies that examine the psychometric properties of this inventory using different Omani samples. Furthermore, the researcher has provided some suggestions and recommendations to use HEXACO-60 in different studies and contexts in Oman.
