English abstract
The recent study aims at identifying the conceptual basics for emotional intelligence and investigating administration practices for Cycle 2 Basic school principals in the Sultanate of Oman in light of emotional intelligence approach. The study also aims at finding if there is any statistical significance between the means of administration practice dimensions in the light of emotional intelligence concerning gender, years of experience, educational region, and number of training courses.
To achieve the sub-aims of the study, the researcher analyzed the educational literature and then developed a questionnaire (69 items) and checked its validity and reliability. The researcher also developed a form for the interview and asked the referees to check its validity. The questionnaire items and the interview form have been classified into the following dimensions:
Self-awareness, Self-Organization, Motivation, Sympathy and Social Skills.
The study sample contains (409) senior teachers from nine educational gions in the Sultanate of Oman: (Muscat, Al-Batinah North, Al-Batinah South, A'Dhakhilyiah, A'Sharqyiah North, A'Shaqyiah South, Al Buraimi, A'Dhahirah and Dhofar). The sample also includes (18) Cycle 2 Basic school principals from the same regions. To answer the study questions, the researcher has used means, standard deviations, T-tests, ANOVA, and Shaffe test for post comparisons
- The field study has come up with the following results:
The sample estimations on the five dimensions of the emotional intelligence has come moderate regarding the administration practices for Cycle 2 Basic school principals.
Regarding the impact of the study variables, the results have showed that there is no statistical significance between the means of the sample estimations on the five dimensions that could be attributed to the gender, experience, and the number of training courses. There is a statistical significant at the level (0,5) between the sample estimations means that is attributed to educational region variable in the motivation dimension, After studying the literature of administration practices in light of emotional intelligence and after obtaining with the results of the field study, the current study suggested a number of recommendations and the most important is the necessity to conduct training courses and programs for school principals that contain skills of administration practices in light of emotional intelligence. It is also needed to conduct meetings and educational forums to raise principal awareness about emotional intelligence concept and the importance for the principals to possess emotional intelligence skills at work. It is also important to evaluate the employees in general and the school principals in particular on the basis of self-competency through their awareness of emotional intelligence skills and to what extent they implement these skills rather than evaluating them on their academic achievements. This study also recommends carrying out further experimental research on developing emotional skills for school principals and designing training programs for improving emotional intelligence at work. The researcher also suggests taking other variables into consideration when working on a similar study.
