English abstract
The aim of the study was to investigate the reality of organizational commitment with its three dimensions (emotional, continuance, normative) among faculty members of Sultan Qaboos University. It aims further at identifying the effect of the variables (gender, nationality, college, academic degree, and years of teaching experience at the university) upon organizational commitment among the faculty.
In this study, the researcher used the descriptive model. The instrument of the study is being portrayed in a questionnaire of (18) phrases which have been distributed on three axes (emotional commitment, continuance commitment, and normative commitment). The sample of the study consists of (206) individuals from faculty members (professor, associate professor, assistant professor); divided into (94) individuals from humanitarian colleges and (112) from science colleges at Sultan Qaboos University. In order to select them, the stratified sampling method has been utilized.
The data have been statistically managed through SPSS. The results of the study showed that the estimations of study sample individuals on the reality of organizational commitment upon emotional and normative commitments is "mediocre," while the estimations upon continuance commitment are "weak." The results further showed that there is statistical differences at the level of significance (0.05 2 a) in the estimations of study sample individuals in accordance with nationality variable is in favour of "non-Omani," college variable is in favour of humanitarian colleges, academic variable is in favour of "professor," and age variable is in favour of "53 and above." The study further revealed that there is no significant statistical differences at the level of significance (0.05 2 a) in the estimations of study sample individuals upon gender and years of service variables at the University.
In light of the study results, the researcher has reached a number of proposed procedures for improving organizational commitment among faculty members at Sultan Qaboos University and recommends a number of future studies.
